Can you please provide a full build (not just install) log, as an attachment
please. I expect it will contain the root cause of why the readline extension
was not compiled.

Thank you for the build log, but it appears stderr output is not included. If
the log was created by redirecting to a file, can you try using the following
syntax:

make > python27-build.log 2>&1

Can you please include (as attachments):

* pkg version -v output
* uname -a output
* contents of /etc/libmap.conf (if not empty)

For me it is a "welll" known "problem". Several py27 ports does not find
(mostly one) file. If the error message or the path is include the word pyo -
nearly every time it helps to reinstall py27-setuptools and py-pip.

Can you provide failing build logs?

One more note:

If reinstalling setuptools and/or pip fixes the issue, then this may be caused
by corruption of the system-wide site-packages environment, potentially caused
by using 'pip install' to install third party packages into the system Python
environment, which should not be done.

I know this is an old bug report, but other people might find this useful:

The issue is likely caused by obsolete library in /lib that was never removed

Try this:
rm -f /lib/libreadline.*

It helped me to finally fix the problem with python (various versions) and some
other ports.

If you are upgrading FreeBSD from sources, do not forget about "make
delete-old-libs" (do not just run it, you have to recompile ports to use most
recent libraries, etc.).

(In reply to Dmitry Petrov from comment #20)

This is still an indication of a bug somewhere, either in the framework
(USES=readline, in detecting readline in base else using ports), or in the
Python build where the build/link against base vs ports may be conflicting

If anyone can reproduce this, please re-open the issue with additional details
